The Borderlands
This nation in the north is situated between the iron rule of the Sondacian Dictatorship and the monsterous hordes of the High Wilds. Here there is a civilization clinging onto their way of life. This land belongs mostly to the half-orcs, who refer to themselves as Kur'gen. Many Kur'gen living here do no come from orc and human parents, but to two half-orc parents. Humans and full blooded orcs do live in this area. Kurhold is the most civilized city in the nation. There are several orcish tribes in the area, but they are comprised mostly of N and NE members. The people of this nation seek not to tame nature, but to strengthen themselves so that they may survive. Some other notable races in this area include hobgoblins and kobolds.
There is no connection by trade road to the other nations. Outside trading is done via ship. The Waverunner clan is a mixed clan that is at home on the water. They ply goods up and down the coast (as well as engage in some piracy).
Sondacia does not recognize the Borderlands as a nation. They are currently on a campaign to erradicate the "orcish menace" from their borders.
Kur'gen are encouraged to leave and learn from the world and test their might while they are young, so that they may come back and share their knowledge and prowess with others. Koreth-go'than is the name for this wandering/pilgrimage. Many start their Koreth-go'than in Freeport.
Rules and laws are different here than in other parts of the world. Grishka acknowledges the rage that burns within her people. Many arenas exist in each settlement where people may both fight out their differences and fight for the pleasure of the crowd. Being a Borderlands Gladiator is a position of both honor and fame.
Grishka rules over more than just twelve clans or orc and mixed blood, however she is in a symbolic marriage with the clan chiefs of the largest clans. She is also sometimes referred to as Grishka Twelve-mate. Rumors of how these relationships work are as varied as the people in the borderlands.
