Kur’gen are nearly as variable as humans in temperament. They shrugged off the name half-orc, preferring the name Kur’gen, as they are often the product of a union of two kur’gen and not that of orc and human. Half-orcs do not have the stigma that they do in the core of dnd. They do meet racism, but not to the extent that they do in other worlds.
Kur’gen are numerous and widespread. They’ve gained a reputation as being reliable and enterprising. They are sent out of their northern homeland of the Borderlands on a journey of adulthood called "Koreth-go'than." They seek knowledge and experience in other lands, among other people. Many return home after a few years, but others setting in the lands they journeyed to, or take up the life of an adventurer.
Freeport is a major starting destination for kur’gen on their Koreth-go’than. As such, many can be found, and hired there.
Kur’gen sometimes marry a single partner, other times not. It depends on their personality, beliefs, and the society they end up in.
Appearance:
Kur’gen are a varied people. Some show preference to either human or orcish lineage, while others are a perfect blend. They tend to be taller and heavier than humans, with more pronounced teeth that appear tusk-like.
Kur’gen skin color has the same potential range that humans do, with the added green and grey tints from their orcish side. Due to their being in the north, kur’gen often have fairer skin. Kur’gen eye color is often green, gold, or grey, but they can have any human or orc normal color as well.
History:
Half-orcs did have a stigma attached once. But, not in hundreds of years. With the new orcish god defeating the old violent and cruel deity, orcs relaxed into a more stalwart existence. Their blood still runs hot, but they’re more tempered now. For the most part, orcs, humans, and kur’gen exist quite well with each other in large clans in the borderlands.
Due to how mixed the population was getting, half-orcs were labelled kur’gen, to make them their own people. As their parents were often mixed blooded and not orc and human.
Due to the rapid breeding tendency of orcs and the fertility of humans, kur’gen are increasing rapidly in population.
Religion:
Kur’gen are not a very religious group as a whole. Some worship human gods, some worship orcish gods, some worship both. Some Kur’gen use the names of gods when swearing. It is highly variable.
Names:
Kur’gen names can follow human naming conventions, orc naming conventions, or a mix of the two. Kur’gen names tend to be more powerful sounding. Those in the borderlands either name their father, or their clan when giving a full name. Some choose a new name when they embark on Koreth-go’than.
